The Girton Parish Council
1 Speed Limit along Oakington Road. The council's application for a 40mph speed limit on the Oakington Road will be considered at the next meeting of the Highways Committee.
2 Facilities for BMX and skateboarding. The councillors expressed their disappointment that it has not been possible to proceed with the original plan to provide facilities on St John's Field. It is now hoped to provide a site in the corner of the main recreation field. The council regards this as a matter of some urgency, but grant applications may cause a further delay. We hope the young people of the village will bear with us for a little while longer!
3 Donation from Girton Youth Works The Council was pleased to receive a very generous donation of £500 from Girton Youth Works towards the cost of the Pavilion. Thank you to all concerned!
4 Bus Pass Rebate. The council will once again be making a £10 rebate to holders of concessionary bus passes. To be eligible you must hold a valid concessionary bus pass, and be resident in Girton on the day of the rebate. (Proof of address will be required, e.g. pension book). The rebate can be collected from St Vincent's Close Community Centre on Thursday 19th October from 11am to 12noon or from Orchard Close Community Centre from 11am to 12 noon on Friday 20th October.
5 Grand Day Out. The Council expressed its thanks to all concerned with making the opening of the Pavilion a very successful village occasion. Special thanks go to Lyn Bonnett for a wonderful feat of organisation!
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be on Wednesday October 18th in Orchard Close Community Centre at 7.45pm.
