Notes of Parish Meetings

Notes from the Parish Council Meeting - December 2011

The following were amongst items discussed at Parish Council meetings and information received by the Clerk. The full minutes may be found here.

The Council has had two meetings this month, with an extraordinary meeting called on 10 November to respond to the NW Cambridge planning application. The Council submitted an objection on a number of grounds.

The Council has approved plans to have a Village Christmas Tree (which has been generously donated by Peter Graves): see the article on page XXX.

Following several complaints concerning parking at the Co-Op and advice from the Police, following consultation with the Co-Op, the Parish Council will request the County Council as Highways Authority to install double yellow lines round the Weavers Field junction. While we dislike adding yet more paint to the Highway this seems to be the only way to stop inconsiderate and dangerous parking: it will enable the police to issue Fixed Penalty Notices.

The Parish Council At the regular November meeting we welcomed Dr Haydn Williams to the Council. We are however still one member short, and if you feel you might serve your village in this way please contact the Clerk or the Chairman.

Remembrance On Armistice Day over 20 people gathered at the War Memorial to observe a Two Minutes' Silence, and we plan to make this a regular part of our Village calendar from now on. On the Sunday a much larger number attended the Remembrance Ceremony at the Memorial and the subsequent Service in the Parish Church. Over the years the base of the Memorial has deteriorated, and since a Parish Council has the power (though no duty) to maintain War Memorials we are exploring how best it can be repaired.

Graffiti Following an arrest for graffiti offences, we hope that the offender will be put to work to clear all the graffiti in the village. If you are aware of any please let the Clerk know the location.

New Police Phone-Number We have been informed that the police have released a national non-emergency phone number to replace their 0345 number. It is nice and easy to remember: just 101. For emergencies (for instance if the perpetrators of a crime are still at the scene) you should continue to use 999.

Forthcoming Meetings The next meetings of the Parish Council will be on Wednesday 21 December 2011, and Wednesday 18 January 2012, starting at 7.30pm at St Vincent's Close Community Centre. Members of the public are welcome to attend all Parish Council meetings and to speak in the open session at the start.

The Parish Office will be closed from Friday 23rd December, 2011 and will re-open on Wednesday 4th January, 2012. In the event of an emergency, please contact the Chairman of the Parish Council.
