Notes of Parish Meetings
Notes from the Parish Council Meeting - December 2013
The following were amongst items discussed at Parish Council meetings and information received by the Clerk. The full minutes may be found here.
Parish Council Meeting
This copy has to be submitted before our November meeting, but the agenda includes the following items.
The Council is asked to affirm that it regards the Open Space on Wellbrook Way with the Bowling Green, and the Community Hall being provided by the Town Charity, as parts of a single project. This is to ensure that the Planning Officers will be happy that each has enough parking space. We are immensely grateful to the Charity for this valuable addition to the village facilities.
Donations are proposed to the residents of Orchard Close and St Vincent's Close in appreciation for the use of their facilities for meetings.
It is time for the regular maintenance of the Pavilion floor and we are seeking quotations for the meeting. We hope that the work should be done over the Christmas break.
Recreation Ground Car Park
Our Health & Safety Officer has expressed grave concerns regarding irresponsible use of the car park, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times. There have been a number of near accidents. Although the Parish Council has plans to redevelop the car park and provide a safe footpath for schoolchildren, which we hope to be able to fund from sources other than the precept, this will take some time, and in the interim we expect parents and carers using the car park at school time to behave responsibly.
Out and About
Now the streetlight project is nearing completion we are receiving many more concerns raised by members at the way the replacements are being handled. The removal of columns without re-location of the remaining ones has led to pools of darkness, and Cllr Reynolds is being invited to view some of the worst-affected areas. Do let him know if you would like him to assess an area near you. Some residents have queried why their lights have not been replaced; this is likely to be because those lamps are the responsibility of the District and not the County Council. Such lamps can be identified by the letters 'SC' before the lamp's serial number. At present the District Council has no plans to replace these.
The police believe they have identified at least one of the perpetrators of the graffiti in Girton and are taking appropriate action.
We were very pleased at the attendance on Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day and particularly pleased to be joined by the driver of the No. 6 bus. The Remembrance services took place at the much-improved refurbished War Memorial.
On behalf of the whole Parish Council we would like to wish all residents a very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2014.
The next meetings of the Parish Council will be held on Wednesday 18th December 2013 and Wednesday 15th January 2014, starting at 7.30pm at St Vincent's Close Community Centre. Members of the public are welcome to attend all Parish Council meetings and to speak at the open session at the start.
