Notes of Parish Meetings
Notes from the Parish Council Meeting - January 2014
The following were amongst items discussed at Parish Council meetings and information received by the Clerk. The full minutes may be found here.
Parish Council Meeting
This copy has to be submitted before our December meeting, but the agenda includes the following items.
A number of Policy documents covering issues such as conflicts of interest and equal opportunities will be presented for adoption by the Council. The Council is being asked to approach Amey-Cespa for a grant to aid the redevelopment of the car park. This grant application will entail a great deal of work in a restricted timescale, so we may not be able to meet all the requirements. Also on the agenda will be the approval of a budget for 2014-15 and the setting of the precept accordingly. The Council will consider a proposal from the Bowls Green Committee on the management of the Green once it is ready for use.
At the November meeting, the Council received a presentation from Frontier Estates on the proposal to build a care home on the land opposite the open space on Wellbrook Way. Councillors raised a number of questions and concerns, but were very appreciative at the opportunity to be involved this early in the proposal. As reported last month, it was agreed to sand and seal the Pavilion floor. We hope that the work should be done over the Christmas break, so that by the time you read this the floor should be in pristine condition.
The Council has been informed of a free programme for the unemployed run by Illuminate in Cambridge in cooperation with the County Council. Sessions will be on five Tuesdays starting on January 14th. For more information see http://www.illuminatecharity.org.uk/news21.pdf or contact the Clerk.
The Council has been invited to comment on a proposal by The Post Office concerning Girton Post Office. It is proposed that the office will move into The George building, and will be staffed 09.30-12.30 Tuesday to Friday. The consultation continues to 24th January, although the new regime will begin on 7th January.
Out and About
Following our comments last month on the street lights, more information has now come to light and we encourage you to read the separate article in this edition.
The police have made an arrest in connection with the graffiti in Girton. Although this person has now been released we shall remain vigilant in seeking to catch those responsible.
In conjunction with the District Council, Girton Parish Council is developing an Emergency Plan though we hope never to have to implement it. Please see the separate article on this and contribute as you are able.
The next meetings of the Parish Council will be held on 15th January and 19th February 2014, starting at 7.30pm at St Vincent's Close Community Centre. Members of the public are welcome to attend all Parish Council meetings and to speak at the open session at the start.
