Notes of Parish Meetings
Notes from the Parish Council Meeting - March 2014
The following were amongst items discussed at Parish Council meetings and information received by the Clerk. The full minutes may be found here.
Parish Council Meeting
This copy has to be submitted before our February meeting, but the agenda includes the following items.
The Council will approve fees for the current year for all our users. The proposal is for a 2.7% increase which equates to the rate of inflation. For the benefit of all our residents we endeavour to make all our facilities available at a cost-neutral basis while also trying to maintain excellence in what we can offer. It is also proposed to purchase a new mower for the Groundsman.
Plans have been presented to the Parish Council for a possible Care Home in Wellbrook Way next to the office block. We have been asked to comment before a formal planning application is submitted to SCDC. The current proposal is available in the Parish Office.
The Council's plans for the car park are being progressed. We intend to undertake some emergency repairs on the large potholes, but this cannot be done until the ground dries out. Work on the drain which has failed, though, is a much bigger job which we would like to combine with the larger works. It is also a cause of regret that most sports fixtures have had to be postponed because of the weather.
The Parish Council has worked with Histon and Impington Council on a response to the proposals, and by the time you read this the Chairman should have had a meeting with James Paice MP to discuss what might be done to improve our protection against noise and air pollution.
Out and About
As the birds' nesting season is about to get underway please check your hedges and trim back where necessary if you can do so without disturbing nests.
The nation-wide flooding has indicated how important it is to be prepared for emergencies. The Parish Council is seeking to establish a register of skills and resources as we reported in January's edition; and we ask all residents to look at it at www.girton-cambs.org.uk/emergency and respond as possible. Paper copies are available from the Clerk.
Girton Glebe Extension
Work is just about to begin to the extension to the School, which is adding two classrooms and extra playground space. Construction access will be along the road between the school and the Parish Council car park and works will go on until August. Working hours will be 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and if necessary 8 to 1 on Saturdays. Collections and deliveries are restricted to 9.20am to 2.50pm and 3.40pm to 6pm. Please will all users of the Parish Council car park be aware of this extra traffic and take extra care.
The next meetings of the Parish Council will be held on 19th March and 16th April 2014, starting at 7.30 pm at St Vincent's Close Community Centre. Members of the public are welcome to attend all parish council meetings and to speak at the open session at the start.
