Girton Town Charity Educational Grants
This scheme exists to help those in Higher Education, at a University or
similar establishment, and those on apprenticeships or schemes leading to
higher qualifications (other than 'A' Levels). It is for books or other
equipment (including laptops) needed for the course. The main requirements are
that the applicant has been a resident in the village for the last two years
of their secondary education and that their course is leading to a recognised
qualification.
If you know any young person who may qualify for the scheme for this academic
year please ask them to apply to the Trustee below for a form.
The grant is for up to 200.00 per academic year. You do not have to spend all
the 200 in one go.
If you require a form for the next academic year, or further information,
please contact Mrs J M Knights, 276405.
Town End Close Nature Reserve
The wildlife potential of the Town End Close Nature Reserve is being extended
by leaps and bounds this year! Thanks to a small amount of funding from the
Parish Council, and also to the efforts of our small band of volunteers, the
new boundary hedge is flourishing, the paths are clear, and the benches are no
longer enveloped in brambles. The KS1 Nature Detectives' Club from Girton
Glebe enjoyed a bug hunt and picnic on the site at the end of term.
The Cambridge Conservation Volunteers will be coming out on Sunday 19
September to help clear the pond, so if you would like to come along and
give a hand, please contact George Thorpe, the warden, for further
information, on Geoviv.2@ntlworld.com. He would also be happy to hear from
you if you would like to help keep this precious little space in good order by
joining one of our monthly work-parties.

Girton Feast Week 2011
Sorry to mention July 2011 when we are still in the summer of 2010 but
planning now needs to start on a Feast week for next summer, particularly as
we are aiming to make it bigger and better than the one held on 2009!
We already have the support of the Parish Council, for which we are very
grateful, but now need to seek more support from within the village.

Bowling at Girton
Over six years ago we held a meeting in the pavilion for those residents that
were interested in a lawn bowling green in Wellbrook Way. We believe we are
close to the point where the Parish Council will give the go-ahead for a
green, provided we can demonstrate that support for the green and a Girton
Bowls Club remains strong.
